14 Vienna Coffeehouses-- (Page Two)

PHOTO
Café Diglas
Wollzeile 10
43-1-512-5765
A modern version of the Viennese coffee house, but with traditional décor. You can get a full meal here (their stuffed peppers, vegetable strudel and home made ravioli are delicious) and desserts rank with the best. Always crowded, open 365 days a year.

Café Frauenhuber
Himmelpfortgasse 6
43-1-512-4323
Dating back to 1788, this café is believed to be Vienna's oldest coffee house still in operation. The small building in which it is located was once owned by a chef of the Empress Maria Theresa. Mozart and Beethoven played here. Booths are large and comfortable.

Café Hawelka
Dorotheergasse 6
43-1-512-8230
Founded in the middle 1930s, this coffeehouse is a popular meeting place for artists. Its walls are covered with paintings traded for food and drink. Cigarette smoke has given a reddish-brown sheen to everything.

The Café in the Hotel Imperial
Kartnerring 16
43-1-501-100
One of the more elegant spots in town where service is traditional but very friendly. This is the home of the luscious Imperial Torte, made from a secret recipe originally created for Emperor Franz Joseph. This chocolate-and-almond confection is often rated higher than the famous Sacher Torte.

Kleines Café
Franziskanerplatz 3
This is just what its name suggests, the smallest coffee house in Vienna. In summer, tables are set up on the charming square outside. Be sure to visit the uniquely decorated rooms inside.
