Historic Yosemite Landmark
"Nature Calls"
The venerable Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park once ranked among America's most spectacular settings for a tennis match, surrounded by the towering, glacier-carved rock faces made famous in Ansel Adams' contemplative black-and-white photography. But as part of an ongoing plan to restore parts of the valley to a more natural state, the old courts have been demolished to make way for native vegetation.
Even so, visitors to Yosemite can still play at the stately old Wawona Hotel, a National Historic Landmark near the park's southern entrance, which offers tennis, a swimming pool, nine holes of golf and easy access to the natural wonders of Yosemite Valley.
