Some 2,000 miles east of Taveuni in the Society Islands of French Polynesia, the craggy volcanic slopes of Bora Bora rise precipitously from a celebrated blue lagoon. Tennis courts are available at several beach hotels here, among them the idyllic Bora Bora Lagoon Resort, set on a 12-acre islet about a mile from the main island.
In theory, at least, it would be possible to lose a tennis match on Taveuni, fly across the International Date Line to Bora Bora, and triumph over the same opponent on the same day at exactly the same time that you lost the first match. Try not to let the stunning scenery distract you from your game, though, or history might just repeat itself.
