Seaside Studios Where to Stay in Maui: The Mauian Hotel
Vacation rentals are a popular alternative to standard hotel accommodations in Hawaii, and although it's called a hotel, the Mauian is a good example of how condos can deliver an appealing mix of comfort and value.
This two-story complex on Napili Bay has 44 tastefully decorated studio apartments with fully equipped kitchens and spacious lanais. Guests might be surprised to find no telephones or televisions in the units, but rates do include daily maid service and continental breakfast, as well as a privileged location on one of West Maui's sweetest beaches. The half-mile crescent of golden sand faces a protected bay that's great for swimming and snorkeling (except when rare north winds and currents sneak into the bay), and restrictions on development at Napili have allowed the area to retain a decidedly mellow, family-friendly atmosphere. If you feel the urge for a gourmet meal or a round of golf, the high-end amenities of the Kapalua Resort are just around the bend.
Published rates vary seasonally, ranging from $155 to $250 a night for two guests, with a surcharge of $10 for a third or fourth person in the same unit and no extra charge for children under 5. Discounts are often available, so check the "Special Offers" link on the Mauian's Web site, or simply call and ask what deals are available at the time you plan to visit.
