Outlandish behavior and eccentric characters abound during spring break.

City Guide Key West

Key West has long been known as a haven for people whose habits and lifestyles fall outside the norms of mainstream America. Eccentric characters abound and a wasted-away-in-Margaritaville outlook is common among many locals. If you find rowdy, frat-house-like behavior unbearable, if people who act or dress oddly give you the heebie-jeebies, or if you don’t want to risk exposing your children to nude sunbathers, you should spend your vacation elsewhere.

Two annual events bring out particularly outlandish behavior among residents and visitors alike: Spring break holidays in March, and (Fantasy Fest), a 10-day long Mardi Gras-like event at the end of October.
