City Guide Key West

Key West is only about 2 miles wide and 4 miles long, with a limited network of roads and an even more limited supply of public parking spaces. Even if you arrive by car down the Overseas Highway from Miami, you’ll probably find it more convenient to park your vehicle for the duration of your stay and explore the island under your own steam.

Bicycling is a particularly appealing option in Key West. The short distances and consistently flat terrain make for easy pedaling wherever you go, and rental bikes are available at affordable rates from numerous shops and hotels. The Old Town district is easily explored on foot, with most major attractions located within a 10-block area on the west side. If you’re feeling lazy, scooter rentals are available as well, or you can board one of the gaudy open-air trolleys that circulate around the island with live commentary by wisecracking tour guides.

Not all hotels and motels offer free parking for guests, but the city does offer a reasonably priced Park N’ Ride garage at the corner of Grinnell and Caroline streets, with free shuttle service around town.
