Season Savvy The best weather is in spring, fall, but 2 of the city's biggest events are in summer and winter
Although summer days can be hot and humid, and winter days can be cold and windy, there's no really bad time to visit Philadelphia. But for truly magnificent weather, plan your trip for spring or fall when the mid-Atlantic region is at its best.
Springtime brings generally pleasant temperatures and an abundance of early flowers to the Philadelphia area, including sublime and ephemeral displays by various species of flowering trees. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society celebrates the season with a spectacular annual flower show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. See www.theflowershow.com for details.
From September to November, sticky summer weather gives way to brisk temperatures and brilliant fall foliage that normally peaks around mid to late October. As at other times of year, cloudy or rainy conditions may occur, but when the sun is shining, the city positively gleams with crisp, autumn light.
Weather aside, two major events in the city provides good reason to visit Philadelphia during summer and winter holidays. Since the Declaration of Indenpendence was signed in the city, Fourth of July celebrations make the month of July a popular time to visit. The famed Mummers Parade takes to the steets every New Year's Day.
