Even if you're the kind of traveler who favors spontaneity over a tightly planned itinerary, it's wise to make reservations for these Philadelphia attractions:
Independence Hall
You must get a ticket to see Independence Hall. Free same-day tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Market, but it's best to reserve tickets in advance by calling 1-877-444-6777 or online at through the National Parks System reservation system. The ticket gets you a 30-minute tour of the building where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed.
The Barnes Foundation
You must make reservations to see this exquisite gallery in suburban Philadelphia. A limited number of tickets are available for the three days a week the gallery is open (Friday through Sunday most of the year, Wednesday through Friday in July and August). The cost is $10 per person and an additional $10 per car for limited on-site parking. The gallery recommends making reservations at least 30 to 45 days before you plan to visit the Picassos, Matisses and Renoirs. Reservations requests may be made by phone, fax or e-mail. Music, dance and theater
Philadelphia is home to numerous world-class arts organizations, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Ballet and the Philly Pops. Pro sports
If your visit coincides with baseball season, don't miss a chance to catch a game at the Philadelphia Phillies' Citizens Bank Park. Purchase advance tickets online at the team's official website.. Other pro franchises in the City of Brotherly Love include the Eagles (football), the Flyers (hockey), the Kixx (soccer) and the Sixers (basketball).
The Philadelphia Zoo
Admission to the zoo requires no advance ticketing, but you can skip lines if you order online at the zoo's website. Prices are $16.95 for adults and $13.95 for children from March through November, and $13.95 for all from December to February.
