With two mountains, three glaciers, 12 alpine bowls, 33 lifts, more than 200 ski and snowboard trails, 5,020 feet of vertical drop and an average annual snowfall of 30 feet, its no wonder that Whistler Blackcomb is consistently rated as one of the top winter sports destinations in North America. Add a full range of family-friendly visitor accommodations, restaurants and other services and you have all the makings of a perfect ski holiday.
For the 2004-2005 season, Whistler has added 1,100 acres of new terrain, including 700 acres of inbound back-country terrain and 400 acres on the west side of Whistler Mountain, bringing the total skiable area to more than 8,100 acres. Also new this year, Whistlers original Creekside base village has received a major facelift as a mellow, pedestrian-only alternative to the main village.
Check out the accommodations section of the Whistler Web site for listings of package deals, some including air transportation to Vancouver and ground transfers to the resort. Families traveling midweek to Whistler on United Airlines from Dec. 1-18 and Jan. 3 to Feb. 17 can get free transportation for children ages 2 to 12 in conjunction with ski area lodging packages.
