If you’re not set on staying in the heart of the action, there are some terrific deals to be had at this family-friendly hotel and entertainment complex about 2 miles west of the Strip.

The Orleans recently unveiled a new 460-room tower, bringing total capacity to 1,426 rooms and suites, some with views of the Strip or the mountains. Comfortable and reasonably spacious accommodations in the "deluxe" category typically go for around $50 or $60 a night, with rates as low as $22 a night sometimes available on the hotel’s Web site. At those prices, the lackluster location starts to look a lot more appealing, and there’s plenty to keep you busy without ever leaving the property.

In addition to the hotel, the complex encompasses a full range of dining options, an 18-screen cinema, health and fitness facilities, a large swimming pool, a daycare center for children, a 70-lane bowling alley, a showroom and of course a casino. Also on-site is the Orleans Arena, home of the Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team and a venue for boxing matches, concerts and other events.

Free shuttle service links the Orleans to two sister properties, one of which, the Barbary Coast Hotel & Casino, is located right on the strip.
