A pair of comfortable shoes is probably the most important element of your Las Vegas wardrobe.

The typical Hollywood image of casino gambling usually involves dapper men in black tie and willowy women in slinky gowns confidently sipping cocktails as they place large sums of money on the line. The Las Vegas reality tends to be much more casual. Some restaurants and showrooms uphold minimal dress codes, but unless you want to be formal for the fun of it, casual attire is almost always appropriate.

Climate and climate control are more pressing concerns when planning your wardrobe. Summer temperatures can be beastly hot, and unless you plan to spend your entire visit indoors (which certainly isn’t out of the question in Vegas), you’ll want to dress in breathable cotton, perhaps with a hat to ward off the intense sun. But it’s also a good idea to carry a light jacket or sweater as protection against overzealous air conditioning in casinos, restaurants and showrooms. A sweater or jacket will be necessary in winter as well, when nighttime temperatures often drop into the 30s or 40s.

Probably the most important element of your Las Vegas wardrobe is a pair of comfortable shoes. You’re likely to spend a lot of time on your feet, trekking through the sprawling hotel and casino complexes, strolling up and down the Strip, and shuffling past the sneeze-guards of restaurant buffets. Bring your sexy stilettos for a special night out, but your feet will thank you if you remember to pack your trusty sneakers as well.
