Chateau Whistler Golf Club Whistler, Canada
The Whistler Blackcomb area 70 miles north of Vancouver is best known as a premier winter sports destination, but the rugged peaks and lush forests of British Columbia make a terrific setting for golf as well. One of four championship courses in the area, the Chateau Whistler Golf Club offers 18 exceptionally scenic holes on a site adjacent to Whistler Village at the base of Blackcomb Mountain.
In keeping with Whistler's mountainous terrain, the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design unveiled in 1993 traverses cascading streams, granite outcrops and towering stands of Douglas fir, with more than 400 feet of elevation gain from start to finish. Brace yourself for tricky puts on sloping greens, keep an eye out for bears, and don't forget to pause early and often to enjoy the lovely views.
Golfing season at Chateau Whistler typically runs from May through October, with green fees ranging from $59 to $225 Canadian (about $48 USD to $185 USD), including GPS-equipped carts. Various lodging options are available in Whistler Village, including condominiums, chalets and the grand 550-room Fairmont Chateau Whistler, which offers preferred golfing rates for its guests.
