The French have long believed in the health benefits of drinking red wine, so what better place for a health spa than among the premium vineyards of southwestern France? The 400-year-old Château des Vigiers, centerpiece of a 53-room luxury resort and country club about 90 minutes by car east of Bordeaux, offers a full range of spa treatments along with four-star accommodations and fine dining.

The Château des Vigiers Spa is operated in conjunction with Paris-based beauty products manufacturer Maria Galland, which provides various deluxe facial and body treatments, hand and foot care, hair removal and makeup services. The facility also features massage therapy, a fitness center, sauna and steam bath, whirlpool and heated outdoor pool.

Three distinct five-day spa packages are available for 360 euros (about $470) each, not including accommodations, or you can book individual spa services à la carte. Bed and breakfast rates vary seasonally, ranging from 155 to 315 euros (about $200 to $410) for single or double occupancy in the chateau and adjacent outbuildings, or 600 to 750 euros (about $780 to $980) for four-person lakeside cottages nearby.
