In 1991, the first and only Jack Nicklaus signature golf course in all of Ireland was unveiled at this 1,500-acre country estate, set among pastures and woodlands two hours southwest of Dublin on the banks of the River Nore. Add a beautifully landscaped18-hole putting course, a three-hole academy course for novices, a driving range, practice greens, riding stables, fly-fishing, archery, a shooting range, tennis and croquet, and you have all the makings of a delightful sporting holiday in the Irish countryside.

The 7,300-yard championship course, host of the American Express World Golf Championships in 2002 and 2004, has 18 well-crafted holes spread out over 200 acres surrounding an 18th-century manor house. Notable challenges include the par 3 third hole, which begins on an elevated tee and ends on a green flanked by a stream and a lake, and the par 5 10th hole, where players must negotiate a treacherous grove of trees adjacent to the equestrian center before reaching the green.

Green fees vary seasonally and according to the day of the week, ranging from 70 to 155 euros (about $92 USD to $202 USD) for visitors, or 56 to 124 euros (about $73 USD to $162 USD) for guests of the estate. On-site luxury accommodations managed by Conrad Hotels include 32 rooms in the original manor house plus additional rooms and suites in various outbuildings and cottages. Rates begin at around 200 euros (about $260 USD) per night.
