Back to Great Golf, Hot Deals

Once upon a time, Primm Valley was little more than an isolated last-chance gambling stop where Interstate 15 crosses the California-Nevada border. Today the area has evolved into a full-fledged destination resort with three hotels, a full complement of dining, shopping and entertainment options, and 36 holes of Tom Fazio-designed golf, all with attractive price tags that make the complex an affordable alternative to nearby Las Vegas.

Fazio, architect of the illustrious — and pricey — Shadow Creek course in North Las Vegas, had his work cut out for him at this flat and arid site on the California side of the state line. But by bulldozing a great deal of sand and adding extensive irrigation systems to feed the acres of sod and imported trees, he was able to transform a patch of dried-up lake bed into two magnificent 18-hole courses with enough subtlety and complexity to be ranked among the top 100 public courses in the United States.

First to open in 1997, the Lakes Course follows a traditional layout with generous rolling fairways, lush vegetation and abundant water features that almost make you forget you're in the desert. The Desert Course unveiled a year later places more emphasis on the surrounding landscape, with cactus, palm trees and other desert flora lining the fairways. Both courses share a well-appointed clubhouse, extensive practice facilities and a robust instruction program.

Tee times may be reserved up to 60 days in advance if you're staying at the resort, or 90 days for day guests. Book online at www.primmvalleyresorts.com or call 800-386-7867.
