Travelers on a budget can find basic, homey accommodations at this friendly B&B, which offers a selection of affordable rooms and suites at two locations in Washington's largely residential Northwest quadrant.

The original Kalorama Guest House is a Victorian town home in the diverse Adams Morgan district near Rock Creek Park. Additional lodging is available at a second location near Woodley Park and the National Zoo. Both addresses are within reasonable walking distance (or a short cab ride) from the Woodley Park-Zoo Metrorail station, and both offer easy access to a variety of neighborhood restaurants and night spots. If you plan to use the Metro frequently during your stay — particularly during the hot and rainy summer months — ask to stay at the Woodley Park location, which is two blocks closer to the Metro.

The cheapest rooms have shared bathrooms (no more than three rooms per bath), but there are rooms with private facilities for just a bit more and several two-room suites are available that sleep three to six guests. All rates include continental breakfast, as well as cookies with hot apple cider or lemonade in the afternoon and sherry in the evening.
