Palau, Blue Corner Wondrous Destinations
A typical dive at this famous site in the western Pacific nation of Palau begins along a vertical wall where a submerged reef drops hundreds of feet to the sea floor. Following the wall, which is home to a magnificent array of hard and soft corals and brightly colored reef fish, divers gradually ascend to a plateau about 60 feet beneath the surface and anchor themselves at a narrow point overlooking the drop-off. Here at the intersection of the reef ecosystem and the open ocean, divers can linger for as long as their air supply will allow, watching a singularly spectacular parade of marine life unfolding around them. Look for several species of sharks, swirling schools of jacks and barracuda flashing in the sunlight, big Napoleon wrasse lumbering close to the reef, perhaps an eagle ray flapping gracefully overhead, along with hundreds of other gorgeous sea creatures great and small.
