Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise Wondrous Destinations
A skier or snowboarder arriving at the upper terminus of the Summit Platter lift at Lake Louise is faced with a remarkable choice of black-diamond and double-black-diamond runs, either down the south face of the mountain toward the base lodge, or into the challenging back bowls to the north. Whichever direction you choose, you'll be surrounded by some of the most dazzling mountain scenery of any ski resort in the world. The wide-open panorama overlooking Banff National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) extends in every direction, encompassing a dramatic landscape of rugged granite peaks and forested valleys as far as the eye can see. If the descent from Summit Platter seems beyond your technical skills, head for the Top of the World lift, which offers easier runs but similarly lofty view from the top.
