Hong Kong, The Peninsula Hotel Wondrous Destinations
The Peninsula Hong Kong is known the world over for its traditional elegance and old world style, but there's nothing conventional about Felix, the hotel's signature restaurant on the 28th floor. French designer Philippe Starck created a cheeky avant-garde interior for the space, which features a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows facing Victoria Harbor. Head up a narrow flight of stairs near the entrance to the main dining room and you'll arrive in a futuristic little bar nudged right up against the glass. Nurse one of the exorbitantly priced cocktails for long enough and you'll see the dense forest of highrises on Hong Kong Island light up for the night, as an endless procession of freighters, passenger ferries and fishing boats churns up the harbor below. Gentlemen can enjoy a view from the opposite side of the building during a visit to the men's room, where a row of free-standing urinals made of polished granite lines another wall of windows facing Kowloon.
