5 Ways to Ensure a Romantic Getaway

"Relighting the fires of romance can be as simple as planning a weekend romantic getaway to a special vacation destination or to a hotel a few miles away from home," says Cynthia Muchnick, travel writer and author of three books, including 101 Ways to Pop the Question.

Muchnick shares five tips for planning a romantic vacation:

  1. Make Special Reservations
When you're making your reservation let the hotel know that your stay is for a honeymoon, anniversary or a very special weekend. This way the staff will know that you expect the royal treatment and they might even throw in a complimentary bottle of champagne.

  2. Be Specific About the Room
Ask if the hotel has rooms that are more suited to romance than others. At the very least, reserve something on the second floor or above so that you can leave the windows open and still have privacy.

  3. Get What you Want
If the service or accommodations aren't what you expect, speak up and ask the manager to fix the problem.

  4. Pack for Passion
Fill your suitcase with all the essentials for a romantic weekend such as candles, massage oil, bubble bath, chocolates, lingerie and silk boxers.

  5. Set a Sexy Scene
Try putting a drop of scented oil on the light bulbs, spray the sheets and pillows with light perfume, or run a foamy bubble bath. Bring along a CD player with some favorite mood music and order a basket of sweet foods like fruits and candies.

Muchnick adds that the most important thing to pack is your imagination. So, picture your perfect romantic getaway and make it a reality!
