Keep the board's downhill edge off the snow.

Learn to SnowboardSnowboarding is enjoyed by millions. "If you've ever wondered what it feels like to cut graceful arcs through the snow while gliding down a mountain on a small board, consider signing up for snowboarding lessons," says Travis Thelen, Supervisor for Sun Valley Ski and Snowboard School in Idaho.
Beginner snowboard tips:
- Take Lessons, Be Safe
The best way to learn to snowboard is to take lessons from a certified instructor. Ask the instructor to check your equipment. The board, helmet and protective gear must all be in good condition and fit well.
- A Combination of Sports
Snowboarding is basically sliding sideways down the hill and combines aspects of water skiing, skate boarding and surfing.
- Point the Board
Point the tip of the board in the direction you want to go and keep an equal amount of weight on both feet.
- Watch the Downhill Edge
Make sure that the board's downhill edge, whether it be a toe edge or heel edge, does not touch the snow. If the downhill edge touches, you could end up in a fall.
- Work on the Turns
Once you get comfortable on the board, start working into your turns, using one foot at a time. Try to walk into the turn.
- Don't fall on your hands.
If you feel yourself falling on a snowboard, resist putting your hands down. Wrists and forearms can be easily injured if they take the brunt of a fall.
