Makes 8 cocktails

Now considered the national drink of Brazil, the Caipirinha's main ingredient — cachaça — is made from sugarcane like rum but has a bite and flavor more characteristic of a rough-edged tequila.

Ingredients:

15 limes
1/2-cup superfine sugar
1 1/2-cups cachaca
lime wedges and/or sugarcane sticks for garnish

Instructions:

1. Squeeze enough juice from limes to measure two cups.
   
2. In a pitcher, stir together lime juice and sugar until sugar is dissolved.
   
3. Add ice cubes and cachaca, stirring until combined well.
   
4. Serve drinks garnished with lime wedges and/or sugarcane.
