Progressive Party
Back to Basics : Episode FLBTB-313

Elizabeth Mayhew, Style Director at Real Simple magazine offers the following tips on hosting your own progressive party:

  • Form a committee, choose the date of your party and designate tasks.
  • Each host house will prepare and serve a different course.
  • Decorations and clean up are other tasks that can be delegated.
  • Make sure you have plenty of places for people to sit. Rent extra tables and chairs if needed.
  • Some groups hold monthly progressive parties with different themes.
  • Choose recipes that can be made ahead of time and simply reheated and served.
  • Basic Info:
    • Send out invitations a month in advance.
    • Include an end time on the invites and whether children are invited.
    • Decide what you will serve, who will participate and what they will bring.
    • Order beverages and other supplies well in advance.
  • Never plan on more than three changes of locale for a progressive party.
  • You'll need designated drivers if your progressive party guests don't live within walking distance.
