If you're going to try tree climbing make sure you are in reasonable shape and of moderate height and weight. The smaller and lighter you are, the farther up you'll go!
- Only use the climbing rope or arborist rope because it's flexible and can withstand friction.
- You can use a leg-strap or a butt-strap, tree-climbing saddle or harness to hold your weight.
- A tree sleeve goes between the rope and the tree to protect the bark from friction damage.
- A tree climbing harness costs $100, an arbor rope costs $125 and both can be purchased at an arborists supply store.
- A helmet costs $50, a set of carabiners will run about $50 and a 25-inch short arborist rope will cost around $25.
- Ask permission before climbing on private or government lands.
