Blackhawk Museum Facts:

  • The museum is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.
  • Its two auto galleries have an ongoing exhibition with more than 90 historically significant and artistically inspired automobiles dating from the mid 1880s through 1971.
  • The Blackhawk's 69-foot tall atrium lobby features copper-hued German skylights and glass along with 40-foot tall columns of brushed stainless steel.
  • The museum's 1910 Mercer Model 30 Speedster is the last known to exist.

Antique Race Boat Regatta and Museum Facts:

  • The museum is located on five acres and features 150 classic wooden powerboats and sailing skiffs.
  • Clayton, NY is also home to the Race Boat Regatta, which is held every two years.
  • Powerboat racing on the St. Lawrence River began in 1904 with the famed Gold Cup Challenge.
  • Most of the wooden powerboats are made of mahogany and accented in cypress woods.
  • By 1913, the hydroplane was developed and in full racing form — a precursor to the modern hydroplane.
  • Gar Wood Boats are among the most sought-after classic boats in the world.
