In the 1980s, some Italian upstarts started making wines that combined Italian grapes with non-traditional varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon. Dubbed "Super Tuscans," these wines won an enthusiastic audience and commanded high prices. But Castello Banfi has come out with a Super Tuscan called Cum Laude that they sell for under $40. Why? Because they want everyone to have a taste of Tuscany.
The Cum Laude is aged 14 months in French oak barrels and then twelve months in the bottle.
The Cum Laude pairs well with bean soups, grilled meat and aged cheese.
