In the 1980s, some Italian upstarts started making wines that combined Italian grapes with non-traditional varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon. Dubbed "Super Tuscans," these wines won an enthusiastic audience and commanded high prices. But Castello Banfi has come out with a Super Tuscan called Cum Laude that they sell for under $40. Why? Because they want everyone to have a taste of Tuscany.
- The Cum Laude is aged 14 months in French oak barrels and then twelve months in the bottle.
- The Cum Laude pairs well with bean soups, grilled meat and aged cheese.
