Breathing Room : Episode FLBRM-310

Artist Estella Loretto returned to her roots in the southwest and created a 5,000 sq. ft. pueblo style home for herself, her daughter and her art. Using traditional adobe architecture, Loretto created an open floor plan that is filled with comfortable furniture and Native American art.

When she first moved in, she had her brother carve the spirals in the center of the ceiling beams to represent new beginnings. Some of the windows are designed to look like four pointed stars depicting the four directions, which is a signature symbol on all of Loretto's artwork. Loretto designed a 1,200 square foot studio to fit her needs.

Displaying art in the home:

  • Choose artwork that is special to you.
  • Determine which pieces should receive the most attention.
  • Accent lighting highlights specific pieces.
  • Track lighting works well to accent pieces.
  • Keep ambient light to a minimum.
  • Group items displayed within shelves or cabinets by a common theme.
  • Keep artwork balanced and scaled to the surrounding space.
