Singular Sanctuaries (107)
James and Stacy Keenan's retreat is located nearly 100 feet above the Arkansas countryside. The scaled-down house sits atop a tower, away from the couple's main home on 50 acres of land in Fayetteville. Take a tour of their special space that's just a short climb away.

Then, meet Kevin, whose getaway is a convertible bedroom. The room actually moves, telescoping out away from the house. The ceilings and walls fall away, transforming the space into an open-air sanctuary with breathtaking views of Southern California's canyons.

Tower Retreat Facts:

  • The Keenans' house is located through the woods, about a mile away from the tower.

  • Because it was designed to be a part of a future home, the tower did not need the approval of the Fayetteville planning commission.

  • A dumbwaiter runs up the tower's center, minimizing the need to carry things.

  • The room at the top of the tower covers 600 square feet.

  • The room took three months to build.

  • The room is perfectly sealed when closed, so no rain can seep inside.
