Commander's Palace matriarch Ella Brennan drinks her Old Fashioned with scotch instead of whiskey, her own marked improvement on a classic cocktail that, much like the beloved Garden District restaurant, is a notable survivor of time and hurricanes.
Ella's Scotch Old Fashioned
1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry
1/4 oz. simple syrup
2 oz. Dewar's Scotch
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
Place orange, cherry and simple syrup in an Old Fashioned glass and muddle. Add scotch and both bitters. Add ice, stir and serve.
