Night Into Day
Its 11:30pm and time to make an elegant champagne cocktail to usher in the new year. I like to dress up my Champagne with a few subtle flavors. Heres one that was introduced to me by my good friend Liam Lynch at his wedding in Ireland. It was his signature drink, and I found it to be quite successful both in flavor and color.
Ingredients:
Champagne (a reasonably priced non-vintage champagne is fine)
Cognac
Grand Marnier
Campari
orange twist for garnish
crushed ice
Preparation:
In a large wineglass filled with crushed ice, add the following in exactly this order:
4 oz. Champagne
1/2 oz. Cognac
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
a dash of Campari
So there you have it! A few cocktails to get the party started; a "serve yourself" Ecuadorian Eggnog to get folks gathered around, sharing and talking; and an elegant cocktail for toasting in the new year!
Remember: It really doesnt matter what you serve, as long as you are having fun and you do it from the heart.
Peace and a very Happy New Year!
