Here are a few ideas to enliven your party's atmosphere:

• Lighting — Use multiple "up" and "down" sources of light, and try out different colored bulbs for either a calming or energizing effect.

• Music — Be sure to mix up the tunes. Burn and play mixes of different artists and songs instead of playing entire albums at a time, which will help keep the mood from stagnating.

• Games — There's no end to the number of games available to partygoers these days...from board games to the new DVD variety.

Cocktail Party Tips:

• Stock up on plenty of ice. Plan to have one-pound of ice per guest.
  
• Have twice as many glasses on hand as guests. For wine, champagne and martini glasses, wine glass charms will help guests to keep track of glasses as they mill about your party.
  
• If you're serving wine, uncork a few bottles and then replace the corks.
