Ever dream of reaching the top of a summit? At the two-day Grand Teton Fantasy Camp, campers climb 13,770 feet and take in pristine views of Jackson Hole.
Camp Details
- Although no prior climbing experience is required, campers must be at least 14 years old and in good physical conidition.
- Private instruction is available for younger kids.
- Campers will climb to base camp at the Lower Saddle, which is the "saddle" between the Middle Teton and Grand Teton, and spend the night. The next day campers hike to the summit of Grand Teton.
- In two days of basic and intermediate mountaineering courses, campers learn the basics of:
- Efficient hiking, rock climbing: balance, body position, smearing, and edging down climbing knots: figure-eight follow-through, figure-eight on a bight, bowline around waist, bowline on a bight anchoring (securing oneself to the mountainside), belaying (protecting partners with rope), walking-in-coils (moving the rope and rope team as a unit across easy terrain), rope management, overview of climbing rating system, easy four-pitch climb, basic rapelling (descending a rock face using a rope), and basic top-roping.
- From mid-June to mid-July, a third training day of snow school may be required if the mountain is still snowy.
- Equipment is provided but campers must bring their own clothing, footwear and food.
