Fall Wardrobe For Men

As summer's steamy days and nights begin to shift into the cooler weather of autumn, fashion conscious men go shopping for their new fall wardrobes. Clothes with bright colors and light fabrics are tucked away, and out come warmer, more sophisticated options that make the most of this stylish season. If you're one of the millions of men who doesn't know cashmere from cotton, of if you're a fairly fashionable guy who just needs a few pointers, some expert advice will have you looking your best this fall.

Martin Kedzior is a Los Angeles-based stylemaker and image consultant who assists individuals and corporations with wardrobe and appearance projects. He works to tailor a client's existing wardrobe by changing what he must and salvaging what he can, bringing out a person's untapped beauty and natural potential. Here he offers some basic fall fashion ideas for men:

  • Choose navies and browns.
Stylish and versatile autumn colors include oatmeal, camels, navies and browns. All these colors will go with any pattern.
  • Pants: wool and corduroy.
When shopping for pants, says Kedzior, look for a worsted wool tweed, a herringbone pattern, and also wide and thin wale corduroys.
  • Wear many layers.
Since autumn temperatures vary, you should consider wearing your clothes in thin layers. This technique can allow you to keep a thin profile and gives you the option of adding or removing items as the thermometer goes up and down.
  • Try a down waistcoat.
Another great fall wardrobe addition, especially for travel, is a down waistcoat. They're very practical, fold easily into a suitcase, and can be used as a pillow while you're traveling.
  • Add a scarf for warmth and style.
In Kedzior's experience, one of the keys to keeping warm is making sure that your neck is covered up. If you feel chilled even while wearing a toasty sweater, try adding a scarf. You may find that a warm neck equals a warm body.
