Serving Cheese

Hot or cold, fancy or plain, cheese is one of everybody's favorite foods. Whether you serve it as an hors d'ourve, a snack, or the main course, there are many cheeses to choose from.

Fine Living entertaining experts Michele Adams and Gia Russo (aka Migi Girls) give us tips on serving cheeses:

  • Some cheeses like gruyere, swiss, and ementaler are better for melting than others, making them ideal for fondue.

  • When creating a cheese platter, include a variety of flavors and textures. There are soft, semisoft and hard cheeses with mild to strong flavors.

  • To avoid conflicting tastes, serve plain crackers and bread so cheese flavors will stand out.

  • Cheese complements fruit and wine, enhancing their flavors. Fruits like pear and apples are perfect companions to cheese.
