Keeping tasting note-sheets will help you the next time you shop or order wine in a fine restaurant.

Las Vegas presents: A Taste of Wine Tasting

Wine tasting events can be intimidating if you don't know the etiquette. Fine Living wine expert Andrea Immer tells us what to expect from modern wine shop 55 Degrees Wine + Design located at the Mandalay Bay.

Small Tastes
Plan on sampling several different wines, but not a whole glassful. A typical tasting portion is about 1.5 ounces.

Use a Spittoon
Don't feel compelled to swallow every taste. Wine pros use a spittoon so that they can taste as many wines as they wish without it going to their heads.

Keep Tasting Note-Sheets
Make note of the name and vintage of the wine, as well as your own description of the color, smell and taste. That way, you'll have your own frame of reference the next time you shop or order in a restaurant.

See, Swirl, Smell, Sip
Follow these four easy, consecutive steps when you are at a wine tasting: first, observe the color, then since 90% of the taste is in the smell, swirl to unleash all the wine's scents. Take a good smell of the wine's scents and then take a sip and move the wine around in your mouth to taste all the flavors.
