William Holden Movies
April 17 marks the birthday of the late silver screen great, William Holden. What better time to revisit some of his cinematic classics?

Stalag 17
Holden won 1954's Best Actor Academy Award® for his role as the cynical Sgt. Sefton, a prisioner in a German WWII camp. When every escape attempt fails, fellow inmates suspect a spy, and all eyes are on Sefton, who'll trade almost anything with his captors for extra privileges. When the Germans accuse a new arrival of being a saboteur, the camp unites to hide him and Sefton must uncover the real stoolie before it's too late.

The Wild Bunch (Restored Director's Cut)
A few months before World War I, an aging band of outlaws led by Pike Bishop (Holden) rob a Texas bank intent on using the money to retire. When the robbery goes wrong, the gang is forced to flee to Mexico with Bishop's reformed ex-partner, Deke Thornton, in hot pursuit. No one is innocent in this gritty tale of desperation against changing times. Masterfully directed by Sam Peckinpah.

Picnic
Holden is Hal Carter, a hunky drifter who blows into a small Midwest town with dreams of landing a "respectable" job with his old frat buddy, who is also the son of the richest man in town. Egocentric and a braggart, the women of the town all fall for him, including the small-town beauty queen engaged to his buddy, and their unleashed passions all reach a crescendo at the town's Labor Day picnic.
