Dudley's JournalDudley was welcome at Yee-Haw Industries, a fact that hasn't held true at other, rather surprising, destinations. Yee-Haw was one of the few businesses we've visited where Dudley was able to come inside with us. Kevin even has a "hitching post" for one of his frequent canine visitors. It seems that places we would never imagine to be dog friendly almost always welcome dogs and many places we assumed would welcome our little guy (like beaches or campgrounds) turn us away.
We've also met with some pretty unusual "pet restrictions." One campground required us to hustle our dog across the park and somehow keep him from "using the facilities" until he got to the dog walk area. Some places require leashes so short that they would strangle our little guy. But, by and large, people are charmed by Dudley, and he has plenty of freedom to run and play where he chooses.
Probably the best part of our visit to Knoxville for Dudley was his mastery of the swimming pool. We visited some friends who have a pool and we finally convinced Dudley to jump in and play catch. By "convinced," we mean that we kept giving him treats after every successful jump. That may not be the recommended way to train a dog, but at least he seems to be over his dislike of the water. |
