Essential AdviceWorking on an old-fashioned printing press may not be the quickest way to create posters and other memorabilia, but the owner of Yee-Haw Industries thinks the products he creates benefit from the process. The Old-Fashioned Way
- Yee-Haw is one of only a few traditional letter press shop in the United States.
- Not too far away, in Nashville, Tenn., you can find a different style at Hatch Show Print, who have been using the letter press to print posters for the Grand Ole Opry and other southern classics since 1879.
- Original woodcarvings are sometimes transferred to zinc plates for use in the printing process.
- Many of the wood block letters and symbols used at Yee-Haw were made in the 1800s. The printing presses were made in the 1950s.
The Real Deal
- Yee-Haw is a full service printer, making everything from business cards to concert posters.
- Yee-Haw also issues limited runs of their original art prints on museum quality paper.
Freedom of the Press
- The printing press has been called, "Freedom's friend, Tyranny's foe" because of the significant contributions automated printing has made to the movement toward democracy worldwide.
Go Downtown
- Yee-Haw is located in Knoxville's historic Old Downtown section, an area of urban renewal featuring classic Victorian architecture.
- In Old Downtown, we also liked the Tennesee Theatera beautiful old moviehouse, currently being restored, where concerts, special events, and classic movies are featured.
