Essential AdviceWe learned that Jim's great talent is living in the here and now. - Jim Blankman can build almost anything out of wood, but he specializes in guitars, street luges, and coffins.
- Jim restored his Dodge Woody himself and designed and built a matching camper trailer for it.
- Jim forges much of the hardware for his woodworking, including the coffin hinges and handles. He also uses antique coffin nails in many of his caskets.
- The Woody casket comes complete with Mexican blanket lining and a cell phone and sells for about $2000.
- The "plain pine box" coffin comes fully lined for about $500.
- To street luge, the rider must wear a full complement of padding (elbows, knees, wrists), a motorcycle helmet and special shoes with reinforced sole (for braking).
- Street luge riders steer by shifting his feet out and away from the board. Steering only requires tiny movements of the feet, especially when travellling at higher speeds.
- In the summertime, Jim takes small groups out in the Woody for picnics and tours of the town of Eastport.
