A Lesson Learned

Dudley's Journal

Imagine our surprise when we discovered that Dudley was welcome to join us on our ski trip.

In our travels, a lot of things we do can't include dogs. We thought that cross-country skiing would be one of those things, for the simple reason that dogs can easily ruin the tracks that cross-country skiers depend on (and pay for) at a resort. We were pleasantly surprised, therefore, to learn that the Enchanted Forest has a separate trail for people who want to ski with their dogs.

Our instructor, Harry, affectionately calls it the "poop loop." Dudley was thrilled to get out on the snow-covered trail and must have covered many times the distance that we skied, as he would run ahead of us, then turn around and dart behind us, only to start the whole process again.

Watching Dudley spring through the snow confirmed our long-held belief that Dudley is part deer. Even though his fur is a little too short to spend much time in the cold, Dudley loves to play in the snow and will chase snowballs with as much fervor as if they were his favorite toys. In the snow, Dudley is a truly happy dog.
