We've always wondered what would happen if and when people started to recognize us. Perhaps a better question would be "What happens when they start to recognize Dudley?"
We were parked on the side of the road in Jeanerette, La., when a car pulled up beside us. "I hope they don't want directions," we thought, relishing our position as the Most Lost People in America. A window rolled down, and a woman called to us, "Aren't you those people from the TV?"
We looked at each other for a long moment before answering. We'd never been recognized before. "Well, sort of, yeah, I guess that's us," we replied tentatively. "Where's the dog?" she demanded. We held Dudley up to the window. She smiled. "Yep, that's him," she said. Thus began a relationship with our new friends, Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson took us on a three-hour tour of her fascinating hometown, introducing us to Martin's Grocery along the way and inviting us to her home for a delicious catfish dinner.
