Dudley's Journal
Not just limited to human enjoyment, the Switchback also doubles as a great dog trail.

We enjoy a break on one of the old Switchback Trail tourist trains.

Dudley runs. Whether it's in pursuit of a flying Frisbee, a scurrying squirrel, or just for the thrill of his legs pumping below him and his ears flapping in the wind, Dudley is happiest at full speed. Unfortunately, his human companions are, by contrast, mind-bendingly slow. When we go hiking poor Dudley has to run circles around us just to keep himself awake. Putting us on bicycles, however, evens things out a bit. As we glided down the Switchback Trail, Dudley would charge ahead full speed, stop to quickly and almost desperately sniff something while we passed him, then charge forward again to catch up with us. He was in heaven and jogged alongside us for hours. We rode 16 miles with Dudley dashing right beside us, and at the end of it, we suspect that the little guy could have turned around and run right back up the hill. He was probably just happy that we didn't tucker out before him for a change. Maybe we should invest in some mountain bikes...
