Watches and Pens—Accessories for Gentlemen (110)
Gordon Elliott discovers the world of accessories tailored expressly for gentlemen. Join him as he explores the company considered by many to be the "Rolls-Royce of watchmakers" and examines works of art that can fit into the palm of your hand. He'll reveal true gems from the world of pen collecting, including some of the most expensive writing instruments ever made.

Fine Watch Facts:

  • Patek Philippe maintains archives containing detailed information about each timepiece produced since 1839.

  • During World War II watches were an unattainable luxury in most countries, and production ceased for all but military needs.

  • Seiko, the Japanese watch company, designed the world's first quartz watch, the world's first LCD quartz watch with six-digit display, and the world's first "intelligent" analog quartz watch with alarm and timer function.

  • Rolex created the first water-resistant watch, the "Oyster," which was worn by Mercedes Gleitze when she swam the English Channel in 1927.

  • Wristwatches made sporadic appearances as early as the late 1500s.
