Haiti Volunteer Vacation/ASAP Haiti The Great Adventure : Episode FLGAD-315
- Non-profit ASAP Haiti is a collaboration of the Wichita Rotary Club and Inter-Faith Ministries and has been working in Lambert since 1993.
- Volunteers pay $1,000 to cover airfare from Ft. Lauderdale, room and board and the cost of volunteering with ASAP Haiti.
- Volunteer projects include drilling wells, building latrines and distributing bicycles.
- Although there's plenty of work for anyone with a willingness to help, ASAP Haiti is especially in need of medical professionals and volunteers with social service or economic backgrounds.
- Financial sponsorship of ASAP Haiti or other non-profit organizations is an alternative way to contribute. Check with the volunteer organization to make sure the majority of funds go directly to those in need, not administration costs.
- ASAP Haiti is also in need of sponsors for Haitian children. The cost is $10 a month or $120 a year to pay all school expenses for one child including daily lunch, teacher salaries and school supplies.
- ASAP Haiti plans to manufacture 500 sun ovens that can reach temperatures over 360 F and do not rely on wood fuel an advantage for Haitians since their area has been impacted by 97 percent deforestation.
