  • A special license is not required to operate a Vespa in Italy, but helmets are required by law.
  • Although the maximum speed of a Vespa is 60 mph, tours usually average a leisurely 18-23 mph.
  • Between wine, shoes and other leather goods, and designer clothing, Italy is a shopper's paradise. Fortunately, "scooterists" can splurge a little thanks to a generous, lockable storage bin beneath their Vespa seat.
