In May 2003, this true high-end and high-style cocktail lounge opened, and it's thriving today. The golden age of cocktails are remembered the minute to step foot into the art deco-inspired Flatiron Lounge, which boasts a cocktail menu of original concoctions by Julie Reiner (also a co-owner) as well as classic drinks from a bygone era.

How can you talk about one of Manhattan's favorite cocktail lounges without supplying the famous...

Manhattan

Ingredients:

2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. sweet vermouth
orange bitters
cherry

Tools:
shaker
strainer
cocktail glass

Fill a shaker half full of ice. Combine 3-4 dashes orange bitters, 2 oz. bourbon and 1 oz. sweet vermouth. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

This well-known New York City establishment is the perfect bar to find the rare spirit, such as a 1945 Darroze Armagnac or a 1914 Pierre Ferrand cognac — and the Brandy Library features more than 900 bottles. The cocktail menu alone showcases more than 100 signature and classic drinks and carefully chosen wines and beers.

Sidecar

Ingredients:

1-1/2 oz. brandy
1 oz. Triple Sec
1 lemon
lemon twist

Tools:

shaker
strainer
cocktail glass
citrus squeezer

Fill a shaker half full of ice. Combine 1-1/2 oz. brandy, 1 oz. Triple Sec and the juice of 1 lemon. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
