Nestled on 400 acres in the heart of California's wine country, Safari West is home to over 400 exotic mammals and birds. Neither a zoo nor a drive-through park, it's a wildlife preserve where the whole family can experience some of nature's most beautiful animals in a natural habitat. Enjoy all the creature comforts when you spend the night in one of our luxury tents, imported from Africa. Imagine — a bed and breakfast where your room has a view of giraffes! Pale-green canvas walls enclose plush beds and hot showers. Rustic but elegant trappings include polished wood floors, gleaming copper basins in private bathrooms and one-of-a kind hand hewn furniture. Tents are built on high wooden platforms with spacious decks where guests can take in the view of grazing giraffes or enjoy the serenity of the private lake. Guests can choose from tents with one king-size bed, a king-size bed with double-size bunk beds or two double beds. If a tent is a bit too rustic for you, check into one of Safari West’s cottage. Suitable for up to eight guests, the two-bedroom cottage is equipped with a king-size bed, a double bunk bed and a queen futon. A private bathroom, kitchenette and outdoor sitting area add to the comfort offered by this spacious dwelling.

Established in 1979, Safari West is a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, one of only six private facilities in North America to belong to that prestigious organization. Safari West is dedicated to wildlife preservation through breeding, education, research and public interaction. It is active in the propagation of endangered species (home to zebras, giraffes and cheetahs); breeds several endangered bird species; and has conservation programs in place for two species of Saharan Desert antelope now extinct in the wild. On-site safaris are offered year-round and numerous restaurants are available on premises.
