Hilton Head (122)
Join us for a visit to Hilton Head, the South Carolina island known for its natural beauty, temperate climate and recreational offerings. Take a look at Hilton Head's accommodations, golf resorts and outdoor activities, and discover the charms of its secluded neighbor, Daufuskie Island.

Hilton Head Facts:

  • Hilton Head is the second largest island on the East Coast.

  • The island was named after the English sea captain William Hilton, who claimed it for England in 1663.

  • There is only one main thoroughfare, both on and off the island.

  • Hilton Head Island boasts 25 golf courses and more than 200 restaurants.

  • High travel season is from Easter to Labor Day. Many restaurants and local businesses are closed from Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day, and most normal activities are unavailable during that time.

  • Four-bedroom, four-bath rentals cost an average of $1600-$3000 per week.

  • A two-hour kayak tour costs $35 per person. Sunrise, sunset and full moon kayak tours are available.

  • Daufuskie Island is the southernmost barrier island in South Carolina, located between Hilton Head and Savannah, Ga.

  • The ferry fee to Daufuskie Island is about $35 for adults and $15 for children. The price may vary depending on the resort you are visiting.

Daufuskie is now home to a private resort—not individual hotels or inns; sea pines along with the other plantations are handled through various rental companies.
