The label, which expresses something about you, is often considered the most important part of the process. Douglas has named their wine Lacrime di Ombretta? (tears of Ombretta). He's obviously developed a flair for the dramatic!

O Vino Mio!
One of the first steps to becoming a real Italian is to make your own wine. But what do you do if you don't happen to have a vineyard?

Douglas: If that's the case, you can do the next best thing: Find someone who makes wine who is willing to sell you some in a demijohn, which is a glass container big enough to fill 40 bottles of wine! After you've tasted the wine, to make sure you like it, (which I did directly from the barrel!) you fill it up!

Ombretta: I never saw you look so excited!

Douglas: While in some parts of Chianti it's practically impossible, you can still find some family run businesses that will be willing to sell it. And the amazing thing is that you get about 40 bottles of chianti for what amounts to 30 bucks.

Ombretta: That's less than a dollar a bottle.

Douglas: The next step in making your own wine is bottling it.

Ombretta: That's the part I like best. First, you need to get the wine from the demijohn into your bottles. Without spilling it! We made such a mess!

Douglas: Then you need to put a cork in the bottle.

Ombretta: That's lots of fun!

Douglas: But you're still not done. The most important thing about bottling your own wine is always the label. The name you give your wine is very important. It has to say something about who you are, about how you see the world, what you have in mind.

Ombretta: Oh, really? And what about our wine label?

Douglas: Ours? For our wine I have something really special!

Ombretta: Lacrime di Ombretta. Tears of Ombretta. Oh my god. You're becoming Italian too fast!
