Avanti: The Car That Would Not Die (319)The Avanti was created in 1962 as a last-ditch effort to save the Studebaker car company from oblivion. It was a magnificently creative project and the car, made mostly of fiberglass, was hailed for both design and engineering.
It did not save Studebaker, but it gained such a loyal following that it has been constantly revived as its own brand many times since. These days you can take a ride in an Avanti by special arrangement at the Los Angeles Museum of Automotive Driving.
